  37. STORAGE
  38.  
  39.      Flurandrenolide ointment, cream, lotion, and tape should be stored at
  40. room temperature in tightly closed containers.  This medication should never
  41. be frozen.
  42.  
  43. USES
  44.  
  45.      Your adrenal glands naturally produce certain cortisone-like chemicals.
  46. These chemicals are involved in various regulatory processes in the body (such
  47. as those involving fluid balance, temperature, and reaction to inflammation).
  48. Flurandrenolide belongs to a group of drugs known as adrenocorticosteroids (or
  49. cortisone-like medications).  It is used to relieve the skin inflammation
  50. (redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort)  associated with conditions such
  51. as dermatitis, eczema, and poison ivy.  How this drug acts to relieve these
  52. disorders is not completely understood.
  53.  
  54. TREATMENT
  55.  
  56.      Before applying this medication, wash your hands.  Then, unless your
  57. doctor gives you different instructions, gently wash the area of the skin
  58. where the medication is to be applied.  With a clean towel, pat the area
  59. almost dry; it should be slightly damp when you put the medicine on.
  60.      If you are using the lotion form of this medication, shake the bottle
  61. well before pouring out the medicine.  The contents tend to settle on the
  62. bottom of the bottle, so it is necessary to shake the container to distribute
  63. the ingredients evenly and equalize the doses.  Apply a small amount of the
  64. medication to the affected area in a thin layer.  Do not bandage the area
  65. unless your doctor tells you to do so.  If you are to apply an occlusive
  66. dressing (like kitchen plastic wrap), be sure you understand the instructions.
  67.      When using the tape form of this medication, dry the skin thoroughly
  68. before applying the tape.  Remove the tape from the package and cut a piece
  69. slightly larger than the area to be covered.  Round off the corners.  Pull the
  70. white paper from the transparent tape (be careful that the tape does not stick
  71. to itself).  Press the tape into place, keeping the skin smooth.  If ends of
  72. the tape loosen, they may be trimmed off and replaced with fresh tape.  The
  73. tape should be cut, never torn.
  74.      If you miss a dose of this medication, apply the dose as soon as
  75. possible, unless it is almost time for the next application.  In that case, do
  76. not apply the missed dose; just return to your regular schedule.  Do not put
  77. twice as much of the medication on your skin at the next application.

  79. SIDE EFFECTS
  80.  
  81.      Minor.
  82.  
  83.      Acne, burning sensation, itching, rash, or skin dryness.
  84.      If the affected area is extremely dry or scaling, the skin may be
  85. moistened before applying the medication by soaking in water or by applying
  86. water with a clean cloth.  The ointment form is probably better for dry skin.
  87.      A mild, temporary stinging sensation may occur after this medication is
  88. applied.  If this persists, contact your doctor.

  90.      Major.
  91.  
  92.      Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or
  93. particularly bothersome.  IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about
  94. blistering, increased hair growth, irritation of the affected area, loss of
  95. skin color, secondary infection in the area being treated, or thinning of the
  96. skin with easy bruising.

  98. INTERACTIONS
  99.  
  100.      This medication does not interact with any other medications as long as
  101. it is used according to directions.
  102.  
  103. WARNINGS
  104.  
  105.      * Tell your doctor about unusual or allergic reactions you have had to
  106. medications, especially to flurandrenolide or any other adrenocorticosteroid
  107. (such as amcinonide, betamethasone, clocortolone, cortisone, desonide,
  108. desoximetasone, dexamethasone, diflorasone, flumethasone, fluocinolone,
  109. fluocinonide, fluorometholone, halcinonide, hydrocortisone,
  110. methylprednisolone, paramethasone, prednisolone, prednisone, and
  111. triamcinolone).
  112.      * Tell your doctor if you now have or if you have ever had blood vessel
  113. disease, chicken pox, diabetes mellitus, fungal infection, peptic ulcers,
  114. shingles, tuberculosis, tuberculosis of the skin, vaccinia, or any other type
  115. of infection, especially at the site currently being treated.
  116.      * If irritation develops while using this drug, immediately discontinue
  117. its use and notify your doctor.
  118.      * This product is not for use in the eyes or mucous membranes; contact
  119. may result in side effects.
  120.      * Do not use this product with an occlusive wrap unless your doctor
  121. directs you to do so.  Systemic absorption of this drug is increased if
  122. extensive areas of the body are treated, particularly if occlusive bandages
  123. are used.  If it is necessary for you to use this drug under a wrap, follow
  124. your doctor's instructions exactly; do not leave the wrap in place longer than
  125. specified.
  126.      * If you are using this medication on a child's diaper area, do not put
  127. tightfitting diapers or plastic pants on the child.  This could lead to
  128. increased systemic absorption of the drug and a possible increase in side
  129. effects.
  130.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  If large amounts of
  131. this drug are applied for prolonged periods, some of it will be absorbed and
  132. may cross the placenta.  Although studies in humans have not been conducted,
  133. birth defects have been observed in the offspring of animals that were given
  134. large oral doses of this type of drug during pregnancy.  Also, tell your
  135. doctor if you are breastfeeding an infant.  If absorbed through the skin,
  136. small amounts of flurandrenolide pass into breast milk and may cause decreased
  137. growth or a decrease in natural adrenocorticosteroid hormone production in the
  138. nursing infant.
